Meet the Teacher: Hi! My name is Kahla Fray and I am so excited to be a part of the PCES team! More importantly, I am thrilled to be your child's teacher! It's going to be a fun year full of lots of learning and new adventures and I cannot wait to see what this year has in store for us! I am excited for you and your child to become a part of our PCES family and I hope that you grow to love our school as much as we do. I have included a few things that you need to know to help us make this a successful year!
Communication: Communication is vital for success! Please feel free to contact me. You may call the school (334) 732-1160. I can make phone calls during P.E. time and after school hours. My e-mail address is [email protected] and I check it in the morning and after school. (E-mailing is the fastest way to get in touch with me.) You may also write notes to me and put them in your child's behavior folder.
Behavior Folder: A purple folder will be sent home everyday to inform you of your child’s behavior at school. I will be sending home notes, any forms to be filled out, and other important school/classroom information in this folder. Please make sure that you sign this folder daily. The back pocket of your child’s purple folder contains the procedures of the behavior clip system used in the classroom.
Tuesday “Hawk” Folder: Each Tuesday, your child will bring home a green “Hawk” folder. This folder will contain their graded papers from the previous week. Please go over your child’s work and review areas that they missed. Please sign and return the folder the following day. You may keep the graded papers at home unless otherwise noted.
Homework Folder: A black homework folder will consist of high frequency word list, weekly Wonder’s study guide, and how to help your child become a better reader. All of these items are in plastic page protectors, please do not remove them. Homework that may be included includes but is not limited to: math, language, handwriting, writing, reading, or projects. *Please note that all work that is not completed in class may also be sent home to be completed as homework, and due the next day.* Your child will be expected to bring this folder to school EVERYDAY!
Birthdays: A parent may provide a treat for the entire class. Treats may be provided in the following way: A parent may bring a treat from home. These treats must be precut and ready to serve. Please drop these off in the office by 12:00 pm and they will be served during recess. I do not do birthday treats in the classroom. Parents are welcome to join their student for the celebration. PLEASE do not show up with treats without advance notice.
BEHAVIOR
Student behavior expectations: The children are required to follow classroom rules:
1. Pay attention in class.
2. Listen and follow directions the first time they are given.
3. Take care of all school supplies and equipment.
4. Move from place to place in a quiet and orderly manner.
5. Allow others to work and play without disturbance or interruption.
6. Respect your school, your teachers, and yourself!
A behavior management program called the "Clip Chart" will be used in our classroom.
**Please find a model clip chart and its explanation on the following page. There is also a copy in the back slip of your child's purple behavior folder.
Class I disciplinary offenses (with the exception of dress code and unauthorized electronic devices) will be handled by the classroom teacher.
Class II and Class III offenses, as defined by the Phenix City Schools Code of Conduct, will be referred immediately to an administrator.
Please refer to the Phenix City Schools Code of Conduct for a listing of these offenses.
Additionally, in our classroom, students are expected to follow the Student Behavior Expectations (listed above). Failure to do so will result in a loss of a conduct point following this progressive behavioral management plan:
1st occurrence- Verbal warning
2nd occurrence- Loss of a conduct point/removal from situation (clip down)
3rd occurrence- Loss of privilege (silent lunch, pride break, centers, etc.)
4th occurrence- Parent Contact
*each occurrence will have an additional conduct point taken
**Your child will receive a conduct grade at the end of each 9 weeks. They will begin each nine weeks with a 100. They will lose 1 pt. with each occurrence of misbehavior.
Positive Consequences include but are not limited to:
1. Smiles, high fives, and/or verbal praises
2. Positive notes/calls/texts to parents
3. Snacks, stickers, or surprises
4. Reward Recess, Fun Friday, or special center times
5. Pride in knowing that you are doing the right thing!
